02026 ANNUAL CODE ACADEMY

Please join us for the 2026 Annual AIACC Code Academy. Once again our presentation is being led by ICC – The International Code Council. This year’s presentation from the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) will include two (2) different seminars. The morning session will focus on “Exit Systems” and will earn you 3 credits. The afternoon session “Accessible Means of Egress” will also earn you 3 credits. This topic will also fulfill your requried “Barrier-free Design” CEU.
There will be a lunch presentation by Stego, along with breaks throughout the day that will provide you the time to meet each of the 2026 Code Academy Sponsors and check out their products. There will also be “Door Prizes” throughout the day donated by our 2026 Booth Sponsors.
You will earn a total of 7 LU/HSW credits for the day.
We will start early with check-in and breakfast available at 8:20am. The first session from ICC presenter, George Mann will begin at 9AM. Lunch will be provided along with snacks during the afternoon and plenty of hot coffee throughout the day.
The Annual AIA Corpus Christi Code Academy is the perfect place for AIACC members, as well as other built environment profes­sionals throughout the region to obtain the continuing education credits necessary to maintain their licensure.

 

 

 

 

2021 IBC Exit Systems – MORNING SESSION
This seminar focuses on IBC Chapter 10 means of egress components that are defined and regulated as “exits.” These components, defined in Chapter 2, are considered as high-level elements that provide a considerable degree of occupant protection within the means of egress system. The exit discharge provisions will also be discussed. Specific topics include:
•    Exterior exit doors at the level of exit discharge
•    Interior exit stairways and ramps
•    Exit passageways
•    Horizontal exits
•    Exterior exit stairways and ramps
•    Exit discharge
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be better able to:
  • Determine those means of egress components that are defined as exits and part of the life safety requirements of a building’s layout.
  • Identify where exit elements are required for life safety.
  • Identify the specific exits established in the IBC for life safety.
  • Understand the regulation of the exit discharge system for life safety.

 

2021 IBC Accessible Means of Egress – AFTERNOON SESSION
This seminar explores the detailed provisions related to accessible means of egress systems as required by Section 1009. Defined as a continuous and unobstructed way of egress travel from any accessible point in a building or facility to a public way, one or more accessible means of egress must also comply with the applicable provisions of ICC A117.1. The relationship of Section 1009 to the requirements of the ADA Standard for Accessible Design is also addressed.

•    Two-way communications
•    Exterior areas for assisted rescue
•    Relationship with ADA Standard

  • Describe the relationship of accessible means of egress to general means of egress.
  • Determine where accessible means of egress are required.
  • Identify those elements considered as accessible means of egress.
  • Identify special features of accessible means of egress components.
  • Describe the relationship of IBC accessible means of egress provisions to requirements of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
